If you're a responsible handgun owner, then you probably keep your gun in a safe. However, not all safes are created equal. That's why it's important to make sure your safe does all of the following:
#1: Keeps Your Gun Out of The Wrong Hands
The primary purpose of a handgun safe is to be sure that people who shouldn't be able to get your gun can't. Whether it's children or thieves, anyone who doesn't know how to access the safe can't reach your weapon. This prevents theft and accidents as a single solution.
#2: Provides Quick Access When You Need It
A gun safe is supposed to make sure other people can't access your weapon; it's not supposed to make sure you can't access it when you need it. That's why you need to have a safe that's easy to open when you need to. One with soft touch keys, for example, or which recognizes your fingerprints will open in seconds, which can make a difference in an emergency.
#3: Fits Into Your Life
If you have a handgun safe, you want to make sure it's in a place you're actually going to need it. A safe that fits into a nightstand, for instance, or which will stand in the corner of your bedroom. While larger gun safes will definitely provide security, they're often ungainly, and difficult to find a place for in your home. A simple handgun safe needs to be somewhere you can access, allowing you to easily retrieve your gun when you need it. Whether it's to collect it in order to go to the range, or because you think someone has broken into your home, you don't want to have to go into the back of your closet, or down into the special safe room, just to get your gun.
