Location is Everything When it Comes to Your Handgun Safe

As a responsible handgun owner, you know it's important to keep your weapon in a safe. This keeps it from falling into the wrong hands by accident; whether that's curious kids who mistake it for a toy, thieves, or anyone else you don't want to have access to your weapon. However, there are a lot of questions you need to ask when you're choosing the right handgun safe for you. Everything from whether it's a password lock or a biometric access system, to how many handguns it will hold, to how heavy it is tends to be something people think about. There is one question that too many handgun owners leave till last, or forget to ask entirely, though.

Where am I going to put it?

Location, Location, Location

The three rules of real estate are extremely important when it comes to your handgun safe, because it doesn't just restrict access to your weapon; it's supposed to give you convenient access to it when you need to have it. That's why you need to know where you're going to put the safe, and what size it has to be to fit into that location.

For example, lots of people keep handguns for home protection. But if you sleep in your bedroom, and your gun safe is in a closet off the den, or in your study, what good does it do you there in the middle of the night when you think there's an intruder? A small safe would fit in the drawer of a nightstand, or under the bed, which might be ideal for your needs. On the other hand, if you want a handgun safe that can fit several handguns that will be used more for storage rather than for quick access in times of an emergency, then larger gun safes that would fit in the back of a closet, or in the corner of a room like a cabinet, may be more in keeping with your needs.

Always ask where you want to keep your gun, and what purpose you're going to use it for. Once you know those things, you can find the handgun safe that's right for that situation.
